Art History and Archaeology, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

A total of thirty credit hours, after the M.A. degree, is required for the Ph.D. program. For the Ph.D. in which the M.A. degree is earned along the way, the student must complete a total of sixty credit hours. For more information, see the department's web page. A minimum grade of "B-" is required for all courses approved for graduate credit. Two grades below "B-" result in dismissal from the program.

Advance to Candidacy: In addition to the below course requirements, all doctoral students must pass two advisor-approved, field-specific foreign language exams (one of these could have been taken as an M.A. student), pass both the written and oral doctoral exams, and successfully defend a dissertation proposal.

Post-candidacy: Students must successfully defend a dissertation.
