Health Data Analysis (Z140)
Graduate Certificate Program
College: Public Health
Program Overview
There is a substantial need among health professionals to learn the statistical methods and computer programming skills necessary to organize and analyze health-related data, especially data collected for a specific purpose or readily available in national surveys. Designed for working professionals, the Graduate Certificate in Health Data Analysis (GC-Health Data Analysis) emphasizes statistical methods and the computer programming skills required to manage and analyze health data sets. The program consists of the most relevant quantitative analysis courses that provide students with the tools needed to improve their data analysis skills and advance their professional careers.
The GC-Health Data Analysis has a strict focus on health data applications allowing students sufficient mastery of the material to improve their understanding of health data management and analysis. By addressing statistical survey techniques and software, the program covers the basic statistics and programming concepts which are the foundation of management and analysis of health data, opening doors to students who lack sophisticated statistical coursework or have no experience with computer programming.
The GC-Health Data Analysis has a 12-credit, four-course curriculum that includes statistics, data management, and data analytics. The program can be completed in as little as twelve months of continuous study while minimally disrupting personal and professional life. Upon completion, students will be ready to analyze healthcare data in a practical setting, demonstrate effective problem-solving, time management, and critical thinking skills, and communicate findings to a wide variety of audiences.
The GC-Health Data Analysis features online instruction, which offers greater flexibility and increased opportunity to tailor learning in a way that accommodates personal and professional responsibilities. UMD’s online learning environment delivers online content through easy-to-use web-based technology that enables learning in an engaging, interactive environment. Instruction is provided by university faculty and experts in the field. The program uses the semester academic calendar with classes held during fall and spring semesters (16 weeks each) and Summer Sessions (two 6-week sessions).
