Mechanical Engineering, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
Students in the Ph.D. program must take a minimum of 36 credits of approved graduate coursework beyond the B.S. degree (a minimum of 12 credits of coursework at the University of Maryland) and 12 credits of dissertation research. Students currently holding an M.S. from an approved engineering, math, or science program may apply up to 24 credits from their previous degree towards their doctoral coursework requirement.
Advance to Candidacy: In addition to the course requirements below, students must successfully pass a qualifying exam, as well as present a Dissertation Topic Proposal. The proposal should be completed within two semesters of passing the qualifying exam
Post-Candidacy: Complete at least 12 credits of ENME899 Doctoral Dissertation Research and successfully defend and submit a dissertation on an original research topic.
