College: Public Health

Abstract

Congruent with objectives from the “Healthy People” initiatives, this certificate provides an introduction to the practice of integrating evidence-based practices in health promotion into community health-based programming grounded in physical activity.  Students will be able to distinguish key theories, research, and critical issues in public health and physical activity to guide needs-based program planning initiatives. Over the course of the certificate, students will develop strategies to pinpoint specific public health needs, assess how those needs run parallel to “Healthy People 2030” and beyond, and investigate evidence-based research to influence programming, and better serve the public health needs of the community through targeted program planning.
