Sociology, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
Doctoral students are required to complete a total of 57 credits (including 12 credits of SOCY899). These credits include three classes in each of two specialty areas. In addition, students must complete a Second-Year Research Paper and must pass a specialty exam.
After completion of the coursework, doctoral students must pass a comprehensive examination qualifying them to write their dissertation in the specialty of their choice. Upon the recommendation of the appropriate faculty members, the Department Graduate Committee approves the coursework qualifying students to take the examination.
