SUMMER SESSION, WINTER SESSION, UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS, AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES
The Office of Extended Studies provides administrative support for Summer Session, Winter Session, Undergraduate Programs, and Professional Studies. These programs offer University of Maryland courses that are taught by UMD faculty.
Summer Session serves current and incoming UMD students, visiting students from other two- and four-year institutions, professionals, and lifelong learners. Summer Session offers flexibility to make progress towards graduation with courses that meet on campus or online during six convenient sessions. Includes Terp Young Scholars, a three-week pre-college program for academically talented high schoolers who earn university credits while exploring university life at UMD.
Winter Session serves current and incoming UMD students, visiting students from other two- and four-year institutions, professionals, and lifelong learners. Held in January, the three-week session offers convenience to keep learning with courses that meet on campus or anywhere online.
Undergraduate Programs includes Freshmen Connection and Undergraduate Programs at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). Freshmen Connection serves spring-admitted freshmen who start UMD in the fall semester and get on track to graduate in four years by earning up to 17 credits toward their undergraduate degree. Undergraduate Programs at USG offers a variety of academic programs where students earn a UMD undergraduate degree (final two years) in a world class facilities and conducive learning environment.
Professional Studies includes Graduate, Post-Baccalaureate, Continuing Education, and Executive Education Programs. Graduate Programs offer master's degrees and graduate certificates that are crafted with expertise, innovation, and convenience to professionals who want to advance their knowledge and career goals. Post-Baccalaureate Programs prepare students for professional schools, graduate programs, and professional achievement. Continuing Education Programs offer non-credit learning opportunities through UMD’s Open Learning Catalog and UMD MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). Executive Education Programs serve managers, business leaders, and executives with customized training programs.
