The Minor in Criminal Justice offers non-CCJS majors at Shady Grove the opportunity to learn more about the criminal justice system and the challenges it faces. Students who complete the minor will have a better understanding of how the criminal justice system, including police, courts, and corrections, operates, its strengths and weaknesses. Students will also be exposed to emerging topics such as forensics, homeland security, elder abuse and human trafficking.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate understanding of the three pillars of our criminal justice system - courts, policing, and corrections
- Students will demonstrate competency in understanding how criminal justice intersects with a variety of disciplines and career paths
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of pressing challenges experienced by our criminal justice system
- Students will demonstrate competency in their ability to read, interpret, and synthesize (in writing and/or orally) important research related to the criminal justice system
